COLFAX, Wis. – The No. 20-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country team placed fourth of 31 teams at the NCAA Division III North Region Championships on Saturday afternoon at Whitetail Golf Course.
Led by all-region (top 35) performances from seniors
Kevin Turlington,
Jack Deaver, and
Gael Manzur Strandlund, St. Olaf was fourth with a total of 128 points, trailing No. 1 UW-La Crosse (30), No. 13 UW-Stevens Point (110), and No. 12 UW-Platteville (120) at the regional meet. The Oles will await word on a potential at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships when the field is announced on Sunday.
Turlington posted the top regional finish of his career and earned his third all-region accolade by placing sixth in 24:43.9, which was 20 seconds off the pace of individual champion Mohammed Bati of Augsburg University. Deaver repeated as an all-region honoree by finishing 17th (25:19.4) for a 12-spot improvement on last year's regional performance.
Manzur Strandlund also landed his second all-region accolade in a row by taking 21st (25:27.5), an eight-spot improvement from a year ago. Senior
Eli Doran and sophomore
Cooper Gundersen also finished in the top 50, with Doran in 39th (25:44.8) and Gundersen in 45th (25:58.0), as did junior
Alex Bjork in 50th (26:02.7).
