NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The third-seeded St. Olaf College women's soccer team will visit second-seeded Carleton College in the semifinals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs on Thursday afternoon.
After a 1-0 victory over sixth-seeded Saint Mary's University in the quarterfinals on Monday, St. Olaf (15-2-2) earned a trip across town to face Carleton (14-2-2) at 2 p.m. at Bell Field. The Knights received a bye into the semifinals after finishing second during the regular season.
The other semifinal on Thursday will feature fourth-seeded Augsburg University and top-seeded St. Catherine University in a 2 p.m. kickoff in St. Paul after the Auggies edged fifth-seeded Macalester College by a 2-1 score on Monday evening. The winners of semifinals will play in the championship game at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, Nov. 8, with kickoff tentatively set for 1 p.m. The winner of the MIAC Playoffs will receive the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Per MIAC policy, admission will be charged throughout the MIAC Playoffs and all tickets will be sold online through
HomeTown Ticketing. There will be no cash sales at any venue, but tickets can be purchased at any time using a mobile device. Junior
Wren VanDeWalker scored in the opening minute of the second half to give St. Olaf a
1-0 win over Saint Mary's on Monday and send the Oles into the semifinal round. The victory was the third-ever win for the Oles in the MIAC Playoffs, as St. Olaf won a quarterfinal for its third appearance in a row (2022, 2024, 2025). The Oles are in the semifinals for the sixth time but have never appeared in the championship game.
Carleton is in the MIAC Playoffs for the 11th time overall and the fourth season in a row. The Knights hold a 9-8 all-time record in the field and have won the tournament twice (2008, 2009). Carleton fell in the semifinal round last season after back-to-back championship-game losses as the No. 1 seed in 2022 and 2023.
Thursday's semifinal will be just the second meeting between the two crosstown rivals in the MIAC Playoffs, with both coming in the semifinals. In 2022, top-seeded Carleton topped fourth-seeded St. Olaf, 3-1, at Bell Field. The two teams played to a
1-1 tie in their regular-season meeting back on Sept. 16, despite the Oles holding sizable advantages in shots (14-2) and shots on goal (8-1).
