MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – First year
Olivia Small, sophomore
Katie Homme, and junior
Paige Steenblock all won events, as the St. Olaf College men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Small won the 200-yard backstroke, Homme was first in the 100-yard freestyle, and Steenblock claimed the 200-yard butterfly to headline the final day for the St. Olaf women, who finished third of eight teams with 576.50 points. Junior
Nick Starcevich was the conference runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle for the Ole men, who completed the meet in fifth with 438.50 points.
After finishing as the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke earlier in the meet, Small won her first conference title in the 200-yard backstroke, edging Mary Morris of the College of Saint Benedict by 0.12 seconds in 2:03.78. The first year's time ranks second on St. Olaf's all-time list, as Small became St. Olaf's first MIAC champion in the event since Carly Knoell in 2006.
Homme added a win in the 100-yard freestyle to her conference crown in the 50-yard freestyle by winning the event in 52.23 seconds. The victory made the sophomore the first Ole to win the event since Meghan Weiss won the second of her back-to-back titles in 2013. After finishing 16th in the event last year, senior
Ellen Varley jumped all the way up to sixth this year (53.70) to claim Honorable Mention All-MIAC honors.
Like Homme, Steenblock picked up her second event victory of the meet with a second-place performance in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.39). The second-place finish gave the junior her third consecutive All-MIAC accolade in the event. First year
