DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's alpine skiing teams both placed second in U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) competition at Spirit Mountain on Saturday and Sunday.
The St. Olaf women finished second both the giant slalom and slalom races, while the men were second in the giant slalom and third in the slalom, respectively. The two teams combined for six top-10 performances over the two days of racing.
In Saturday's giant slalom, first year
Maia Andrews posted St. Olaf's top finish of the weekend with a fourth-place showing (53.09) to lead three top-20 performances for the women's team. Senior
Kate Young was 11th (54.52) and junior
Jessica Stanton was 16th (55.49). Senior
Graham Barwick led four Ole men in the top 20 in ninth (51.79), while first year
Austin Mjanger placed 11th (52.05), junior
Wyatt Shultz took 14th (52.39), and junior
Kerem Haymana was 19th (52.93).
Mjanger and Shultz both finished in the top six in the men's slalom on Sunday, with Mjanger in fifth (1:07.80) and Shultz in sixth (1:09.06). Barwick and fellow senior
Alexander James were 21st (1:18.89) and 22th (1:21.07), respectively. Young was St. Olaf's top performer in the women's slalom with a seventh-place result (1:15.21) and was joined in the top 10 by Stanton in 10th (1:17.60). Senior
Lexi Jorgensen added a top-15 result in 15th (1:20.61).
St. Olaf will go back to International Ski Federation (FIS) competition at Lutsen Resort on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9 before competing at USCSA Regionals the following weekend.
