MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams continued their preparations for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Gary Wilson Invitational on Wednesday at the University of Minnesota Track & Field Stadium.
Junior
Jack Deaver won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase for St. Olaf's lone first-place finish of the day, while junior
Isabel Wyatt was the runner-up in the women's 800-meter run while posting a top-25 national time. All told, St. Olaf recorded 14 top-10 finishes at the unscored meet.
Deaver led the 19-runner field in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a winning time of 9:20.74, which ranks second in the MIAC and eighth on St. Olaf's all-time list. Sophomore Lex Kay was also in the top 10 in the event in 10th (9:56.79).
Wyatt was the runner-up in the 800-meter run in 2:12.19, less than one second behind Caroline Sudbeck of NCAA Division II Augustana University (S.D.). The junior's time is the fastest in the conference this season, ranks second on the program's all-time list, and is 21st nationally.
Senior
Sophie Abernethy, junior
Ella Landis, and sophomore
Siri Erickson all placed in the top 10 in the 1,500-meter run with season-best times. Abernethy was third – behind two runners from the University of Minnesota – in 4:44.17, which is the second-fastest time in the MIAC to date. Landis finished fourth (4:50.61) and Erickson was 10th (4:54.03), with Landis' time ranking fifth in the conference.
Senior
Sofia Carlson recorded a personal-best time of 11:36.32 to finish fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while junior
Max Thomas took fifth in the javelin throw with a season-best toss of 43.83 meters (143' 9").
Both teams will have representatives in the distance events at the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 24.
