HASTINGS/FARIBAULT, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's golf team finished fourth of four teams at the Carleton Fall Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club and Legacy Golf.
Competing in a field with three other teams who all either were ranked or received votes in the NCAA Division III Mizuno Women's Golf Coaches Association Preseason Poll, St. Olaf was fourth with a team sore of 698 (+118) in the 36-hole event. After shooting a 357 (+65) on Saturday, the Oles improved by 12 shots as a team on Sunday with a 341 (+53).
Host Carleton College, which received votes nationally in the preseason, won the team title (624, +44), followed by No. 16-ranked St. Catherine University (637, +57), and the College of Saint Benedict (649, +69), which also received votes in the WGCA poll.
For the second tournament in a row to start the season, sophomore
Anneliese Carlson was the top finisher for St. Olaf in 11th (164, +19). Carlson finished the tournament tied for fifth in par-five scoring (+2, 5.25) and posted a five-shot improvement on Sunday with a 79 (+7).
Junior
Marit Lyle wrapped up the weekend in 17th (176, +31) after shooting 10 strokes better on Sunday by firing an 83 (+11) for the Oles' second-best score of the final round. First year
Annika Searles matched Carlson with an 85 (+12) on Saturday before finishing 21st (180, +29).
St. Olaf will return to Hastings for the Gustie D3 Classic on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13-14 at Emerald Greens Golf Course.
