Two school records fall for women's track and field at Ole Opener

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior Ashlyn Jore and sophomore Izzi Jaeckle both established new program records for the St. Olaf College women's track and field team at the Ole Opener on Saturday at Tostrud Fieldhouse.

Jore broke the four-decades-old school record in the long jump and was one one-hundredth off the all-time mark in the 60-meter dash, while Jaeckle reset the record in the 200-meter dash. The two record-breaking performances were among eight first-place finishes for St. Olaf at the unscored meet.

Jore bettered the previous school record of Jo Arveson from 1983 with a mark of 5.63 meters (18' 5 ¾") on her second attempt, which proved to be the winning jump at the meet. That mark currently ranks eighth in NCAA Division III this season. First year Svea Frantzich also bested Arveson's prior record and was the runner-up to Jore with a mark of 5.57 meters (18' 3 ¼"), which sits 13th nationally.

Jaeckle sprinted to a win in the 200-meter dash (26.07) while topping the 2017 school record of Abby Stets by 11 one-hundredths of a second. First year Claire Stein joined Jaeckle in the top three in third (26.88) to move up to seventh on St. Olaf's all-time performers' list in the event.

Jore and first year Evangeline Sappington both neared the school record in the 60-meter dash, finishing first and second, respectively, with times of 8.04 seconds and 8.07 seconds. Jore's winning time was one one-hundredth of a second off the 1999 school record of Amanda Olson and ranks second on the program's all-time performers' list, while Sappington's time is third on the Oles' all-time performers' list.

Sophomore Logan Paulsen recorded top-two finishes in both the shot put (12.68m, 41' 7 ¼") and weight throw (14.11m, 46' 3 ½"), winning the former event and taking second in the latter. Paulsen's winning toss in the shot put ranks fifth in St. Olaf's all-time performers' list and 20th in NCAA Division III this season, while the sophomore's mark in the weight throw is third on the Oles' performers' list.

First year Ellie Semple and senior Lauren Walda added wins in the 400-meter run (59.92) and 3,000-meter run (10:16.01), respectively, with Semple leading three Oles in the top five in her event. Jaeckle, first year Cora DenHartog, junior Nora Mickelson, and junior Molly DiNardo raced to a top-20 national time and a win in the 4x400-meter relay (4:03.05).

First year Abby Frei bettered her No. 5 standing on St. Olaf's performers' list in the pole vault with a winning clearance of 3.35 meters (10' 11 ¾"), while classmate Annika Walsh matched her No. 5 clearance on the same list in the high jump after clearing 1.62 meters (5' 3 ¾") in the high jump to take second with the No. 19 clearance in the country this season.

Walsh was also the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles (9.52), while DenHartog led a 2-3-4 finish for the Oles in the 600-meter run (1:39.92).

St. Olaf will travel to Macalester College for the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on Saturday, Jan. 24.
