ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's track and field team turned in 13 individual top-five performances in a second-place finish at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on Saturday at the Leonard Center.
Led by first-place results from first year
Claire Stein in the 200-meter dash and senior
Ashlyn Jore in the long jump, St. Olaf accumulated 92 points at the meet to place second to NCAA Division II University of Minnesota Duluth. The Oles edged Bethel University by five points and were 18 points behind the Bulldogs in the 15-team field.
Stein turned in the top time of the day and the third-fastest time in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season in the 200 with a winning time of 26.46 seconds. The first year's time ranks sixth on St. Olaf's all-time performers' list and ninth on its all-time performances list.
One week after breaking the school record in the event, Jore was just three-fourths of an inch off that record in the long jump with a mark of 5.61 meters (18' 5"). That mark was a new meet record and was the second-farthest jump in recorded program history.
In her season debut, senior
Isabel Wyatt – an All-American in the event a year ago – was the runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:17.13) with the fastest time in the conference and the seventh-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. First year
Abby Frei also placed second in the pole vault by clearing 3.20 meters (10' 6").
Sophomore
Izzi Jaeckle took third in the 400-meter dash (58.92) with the third-fastest time in the MIAC to date this season, while also moving up to fifth on the Oles' all-time performers' list. First year
Evangeline Sappington also posted a top-10 time on St. Olaf's performances list in the 60-meter dash with a fourth-place time of 8.12 seconds.
Sophomore
Logan Paulsen recorded top-four finishes in the shot put (3rd, 12.60m, 41' 4 ¼") and the weight throw (4th, 14.64m, 48' ½"), with the latter mark ranking second on St. Olaf's performers' list and 10th on its performances list.
