NEW ORLEANS, La. – The St. Olaf College men's track and field team came in at No. 16 in the NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field National Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) at Checkpoint #2, as announced on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
After being ranked No. 11 at the initial checkpoint, St. Olaf dipped five spots this week after more times/marks came in across the country but remained the highest-ranked Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) program, one spot ahead of the College of St. Scholastica. The USTFCCCA TFRI is a mathematical system used to rank collegiate track and field teams based on current season performances only.
Head coach
Brian Power's team slotted in at No. 16 on the strength of eight top-30 rankings in individual events (see list below). The Oles also had three event groups ranked in the top 25 this week, highlighted by the top-ranked 800-meter group in the country. St. Olaf's 5,000-meter group and milers were ranked No. 11 and No. 22, respectively.
St. Olaf will split its team between the Gopher Classic and UWRF Winter Classic (throwers) on Saturday, Feb. 7.
