Track and field teams continue indoor seasons in Minneapolis and River Falls

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn/RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Gopher Classic and the UWRF Winter Classic on Saturday.

The bulk of St. Olaf's teams were in action at the unscored Gopher Classic at the University of Minnesota, while the team's throwers were in River Falls. In River Falls, junior Otelia Lighthill moved into a tie for ninth place on St. Olaf's all-time performers' list in the weight throw with a mark of 13.25 meters (43' 5 ¾").

In Minneapolis, first year Paxon Myers and senior Lance Nemecek posted top-20 national times in the 800-meter run as part of their 1-2 finish in the event. Myers won the event in 1:53.59, just 14 one-hundredths of a second ahead of Nemecek. Those times rank 15th and 16th, respectively, in the country this season and fourth and fifth on the Oles' all-time performers' list.

Sophomore Austin McInturff also broke onto St. Olaf's all-time performers' list in the 400-meter run with a 10th-place time of 50.69 seconds, which ranks 10th in program history. Sophomore Jackson Bullock ran the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC)'s No. 4 time in the one-mile run this season (4:16.98) to place seventh.

Sophomore Izzi Jaeckle was just two one-hundredths of a second off her school record from last week in the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 25.77 seconds. She was also the runner-up in the 400-meter run (58.10) with a top-five time in the conference this season. First year Eleanor Semple cracked the Oles' top-10 performers' list in the event with a fifth-place finish (59.56) to slot into eighth place.

Senior Isabel Wyatt took second in the 600-meter run (1:35.24) with the second-fastest time in the MIAC this season and the No. 5 time on St. Olaf's all-time performances' list. First year Cora DenHartog was fifth (1:36.64) with a top-five time in the conference and a top-10 time on both program lists.

St. Olaf will again divide up its teams between the Midwest Elite Invitational 5K (Friday), SDSU Indoor Classic (Friday), Ted Nelson Classic (Saturday), and UW-Stout Quad (Saturday) this weekend.
