BAYFIELD, Wis./HOUGHTON, Mich. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's Nordic skiing teams split up between the Mt. Ashwabay Skiathlon and the Michigan Tech University CCSA Invite over the weekend.
At Mount Ashwabay, the St. Olaf women finished first of seven MCSA teams with a score of 172 points, finishing 38 points clear of the University of Wisconsin. First year
Anna Peikert and sophomore
Annika Fuhrmann were the top-two MCSA finishers with times of 1:41:17 and 1:43:59, respectively, while senior
Hjelle Personius (6th, 1:51:59) and first year
Greta Hedman (7th, 1:52:33) were also in the top 10.
The Ole men took third out of six MCSA programs with 113 points, eight behind the University of Minnesota Duluth and 70 behind the University of Wisconsin. First year
Jack Aldrich posted the top time of the day among MCSA skiers in 1:29:17. Senior
Tait Myers (6th, 1:35:37) and senior
Haakon Erdahl (11th, 1:39:25) also placed in the top 12.
In Houghton, the St. Olaf women were fourth and the men were fifth in the five-team CCSA competition that included the College of St. Scholastica, Michigan Tech University, Northern Michigan University, and UW-Green Bay. The women placed third in the 20K Freestyle and fourth in the 5K Classic, while the men were fifth on both days.
Junior
Amae Kam-Magruder was St. Olaf's top finisher in both women's events, taking 11th in the 5K Classic (18:09.6) and sixth in the 20K Freestyle (1:02:41.1), respectively. Sophomore
Liesl Cope-Schaeffer was 11th in the 20K Freestyle (1:05:35.8), while junior
Lily Ward was 12th on both days with times of 18:14.3 and 1:05:40.0.
Sophomores
Paavo Rova and
Lance Hastings represented the men's teams in both events, with Rova posting top-20 results on both days. Rova was 19th in Saturday's 5K Classic (15:48.2) and 15th in Sunday's 20K Freestyle (56:37.9), while Hastings was 32nd (16:42.8) and 29th (1:03:20.6), respectively.
St. Olaf will head to Mora for the Dalaloppet at Vasaloppet Nordic Center on Saturday, Feb. 7.
