Women's track and field wins six events at Manitou Classic

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's track and field recorded six first-place performances in its first full-team meet of the outdoor season at the Manitou Classic on Saturday at Manitou Track.

In rainy conditions with temperatures in the mid-40s, St. Olaf won four events on the track and two in the field at the unscored meet. The Oles also compiled seven performances that ranked on the program's all-time performers' list at the meet.

First year Claire Stein swept the titles in the two hurdle events, winning the 100-meter hurdles (15.23) and 400-meter hurdles (1:04.68) while posting top-10 program times in both events. Stein's time in the shorter event ranks tied for fourth all-time, while her time in the longer event is eighth.

Sophomore Izzi Jaeckle led a 1-2-3 finish for the Oles in the 400-meter dash by winning the event in 57.30 seconds, which moved Jaeckle into second place on St. Olaf's all-time performers' list. Senior Isabel Wyatt was just seven one-hundredths of a second behind Jaeckle to slide into fourth in program history in the event, while first year Cora DenHartog was third (58.18) on the day.

First year Annika Walsh cleared 1.60 meters (5' 3") on her first attempt to win the high jump, while senior Ashlyn Jore won the long jump by over one foot with a mark of 5.49 meters (18' ¼"). Jore's mark was a quarter of an inch shy of her outdoor PR that ranks fourth on the program's all-time list.

St. Olaf's 4x400-meter relay of DenHartog, junior Molly DiNardo, senior Abbie Manhard, and junior Nora Mickelson closed the day by winning the event in 4:02.18.

First years Evangeline Sappington and Abby Frei also broke onto the Oles' all-time performers' list in the 100-meter dash and pole vault, respectively. Sappington was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash (12.75) to tie for ninth all-time, while Frei was third in the pole vault (3.30m, 10' 10") to move to sixth.

St. Olaf will divide its team across three meets this coming week, sending competitors to the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 15-17), Phil Esten Challenge (April 17), and Carleton Relays (April 18).
