EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The St. Olaf College men's track and field team posted seven top-five finishes at the Dick & Mary Johnson Invite on Saturday at Simpson Field.
With a relatively small number of entries in the meet, St. Olaf had six top-five performances on the track and one more in the field, led by first-place results from seniors
Angelo Fiataruolo and
Jack Deaver. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Deaver and senior
Ignatius Fitzgerald logged a 1-2 finish in the five-runner 3,000-meter steeplechase, with Deaver breaking the meet record with his winning time of 9:29.16. Fitzgerald was the runner-up to Deaver in 9:43.10, as the duo recorded the No. 2 and No. 5 times in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season, respectively.
In a field of just four runners in the event, Fiataruolo won the 5,00-meter run by over 30 seconds with a time of 15:38.75 for the Oles' other first-place showing. Sophomore Gavin Vodel added a third-place result in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 49.85 seconds.
Junior
Max Albertson registered a pair of fourth-place finishes, taking fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.07) and triple jump (13.02m, 42' 8 ¾"), respectively. Albertson's time of 11.06 seconds in the prelims of the 100-meter dash was a personal-best time.
Sophomore
Micah Larsen-Schmidt was also fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a PR of 4:00.67.
St. Olaf's next meet will be the Joe Sweeney Invitational at the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday, April 29.
