NORTHFIELD, Minn. – First year
Claire Stein was third after four events to lead four members of the St. Olaf College women's track and field team on day one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Heptathlon on Thursday at Laird Stadium.
Stein tied the program record in the 100-meter hurdles (14.83) and posted a top-five program time in the 200-meter dash (25.63) to sit 60 points back of a pair of Concordia-Moorhead heptathletes with 2,724 points. Fellow first years
Annika Walsh and
Svea Frantzich were seventh and 10th, respectively, while senior
Claire Keech sat in 15th after the first day of the two-day multi.
Stein started the day by tying the school record of 14.83 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles set by Rebekah Salfer '24 in 2023. The first year finished the day by also winning the 200-meter dash in 25.63 seconds, which put Stein as the No. 4 performer in program history in the event, to rise from sixth to third with her third personal-best result in the day's four events.
Walsh totaled 2,551 points across the four events to end the day in seventh place, highlighted by tying for second in the high jump by clearing 1.60 meters (5' 3") in the second event of the day. She also recorded a personal-best time of 27.54 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Frantzich joined Stein and Walsh with PRs in the 200-meter dash (26.53) to finish the day in 10th place with 2,445 points. Frantzich's time was good for fifth in the event for her highest placement of the day. Keech compiled 2,253 points on day one while recording a personal-best clearance of 1.45 meters (4' 9") in the high jump and a fourth-place result in the shot put (9.90m, 32' 5 ¾").
Day two of the MIAC Heptathlon will begin with the long jump at 12:30 p.m.
