Men's track and field wins seven events at home

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's track and field team picked up seven first-place finishes among its 20 top-three performances at the Ole Outdoor Open on Saturday afternoon at Manitou Track.

St. Olaf won seven events and had eight runner-up showings on the day in its final meet before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Junior Max Albertson led the way by winning both the long jump and 100-meter dash.

Albertson won the long jump by nearly three feet with a mark of 7.20 meters (23' 7 ½"), which ranks second in the conference and second on St. Olaf's all-time performers list. All three of the junior's measured jumps were over seven meters and would have ranked inside the top five on the Oles' all-time list.

Albertson and sophomore Cristian Escobar Pearson posted a 1-2 finish in the 100-meter dash, with Albertson breaking 11 seconds (10.97) and Escobar Pearson just behind (11.02). Escobar Pearson also was first in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 22.47 seconds.

First year Aidan McKeever and sophomore Austin McInturff took the top-two spots in the 400-meter dash, led by McKeever's time of 49.61 seconds. McInturff was a little over half a second back in 50.26 seconds.

Sophomore Jackson Bullock's personal-best time of 1:54.01 paced a 1-2-3-4 finish for St. Olaf in the 800-meter run, with junior Zach Martin and senior Ignatius Fitzgerald in second (1:56.95) and third (1:57.70), respectively. Junior Alex Bjork and first year Ian Guasco won the 1,500-meter run (3:58.02) and 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:59.88), respectively.

Senior Max Thomas was the runner-up in the javelin throw (49.18m, 161' 4"), sophomore Rik Cumps was second in the triple jump (13.21m, 43' 4 ¼"), while junior Will Lapinski took second in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.57) and 400-meter hurdles (49.18m).

The MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will begin with field events at 2 p.m. and track events at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8 at Manitou Track.
