Lighthill wins discus throw, women's track and field second heading into final day of MIAC Outdoor Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior Otelia Lighthill won the discus throw to help the St. Olaf College women's track and field to a second-place standing after day one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Manitou Track.

Lighthill became St. Olaf's first discus conference champion since 1994 with a first-place toss of 42.80 meters (140' 5") to rise to third on the Oles' all-time performers list in the event. The junior's performance was part of a 58-point opening day for St. Olaf, which sat 47 points behind first-place Concordia-Moorhead after posting 10 top-10 all-time performances on the day.

In addition to Lighthill's win in the discus, senior Ashlyn Jore earned All-MIAC honors and tied her school record in the long jump with a second-place leap of 5.60 meters (18' 4 ½"). First years Svea Frantzich and Claire Stein added Honorable Mention All-MIAC results in the event, as Frantzich took fourth (5.52m, 18' 1 ½") and Stein was fifth (5.50m, 18' 0 ½"). Those marks rank tied for fourth and sixth, respectively, in program history.

Seniors Ella Landis and Megan Timmerman placed fourth (4:39.20) and sixth (4:47.08), respectively, in the 1,500-meter run to claim honorable-mention honors with a pair of personal-best times. Sophomore Abi Lindquist gave the Oles three scorers in the event in eighth (4:49.91).

St. Olaf's 4x800-meter relay of sophomore Louisa Lamarre, Landis, first year Anna Peikert, and first year Cora DenHartog posted a fourth-place (9:39.27) finish to pick up honorable-mention honors. Sophomore Arabella England also was an honorable-mention honoree in the 10,000-meter run by taking sixth (39:15.06).

St. Olaf also had a number of competitors qualify for event finals on Saturday, including sophomore Izzi Jaeckle's top qualifying time in the 200-meter dash (25.06). That time ranks No. 2 in program history. First year Claire Stein ran the program's No. 2 all-time time in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.40) to qualify second with the No. 21 time in NCAA Division III this season.

Four Oles moved on in the 800-meter run, led by senior Isabel Wyatt's second-place qualifying time of 2:14.20. DenHartog was third (2:14.84), with junior Molly DiNardo in eighth (2:17.59) and senior Abbie Manhard in ninth (2:18.79).

Other qualifiers included Jaeckle (4th, 57.79) and first year Eleanor Semple in the 400-meter dash (3rd, 57.60), Stein in the 100-meter hurdles (4th, 14.97), and first year Evangeline Sappington in the 100-meter dash (9th, 12.49).
