NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior
Stephen Peper recorded the fourth-best jump in the high jump in the country this season to highlight the performances of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team at this weekend's Carleton Relays at Laird Stadium.
Peper entered the day tied for 10th in the event nationally after clearing 2.00 meters (6' 6 ¾") at last week's St. Olaf Men's Invitational, but cleared 2.06 meters (6' 9") on his third and final attempt to move into a tie for fourth nationally. The jump also moved the junior into fifth on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event.
Peper's event win was one of six for the Oles over the two-day meet and St. Olaf added five second-place finishes over the weekend.
Three of St. Olaf's six event wins came on the track on Friday afternoon. First year
Will Kelly won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:50.20, leading five Oles in the event. Junior
Sam Stresemann won the 800 meters (1:57.87), while sophomore
Reuben Kosche established a new PR in the 1,500 meters to win the event in 3:58.64.
On Saturday, first year
Jacob Colich placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.16 seconds, edging
Lucas Kramarczuk, who placed second (58.75). Colich also anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay (3:29.52) that included Peper,
Duncan Forbes, and
Daniel Nichols.
Kramarczuk was the runner-up in both hurdles events, taking second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.20) behind Taylor Rooney of Gustavus, who holds the nation's top time in the event.
Other runner-up finishes came from junior
Chris Raabe-Pavlov in the 10,000 meters (33:50.22), first year
Rayan Elahi in the pole vault (3.82m), and senior
Nick Edwards in the high jump (1.78m).
St. Olaf hosts the Meet of the Saints and Multi on Friday and Saturday, April 23-24 at Manitou Track.
