Peper, Kramarczuk shine as men's track and field opens season at home

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In its first meet as a team since the 2020 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Championships, the St. Olaf College men's track and field team won 11 events at its season-opening St. Olaf Men's Invitational on Friday afternoon at Manitou Track.

Junior Stephen Peper and sophomore Lucas Kramarczuk led the way for the Oles, collecting two event wins apiece while breaking into the program's top-10 lists in the high jump and 110-meter hurdles, respectively. The meet was St. Olaf's first competition as an entire team in 405 days and its first home outdoor meet since May 2, 2018.

Peper moved into ninth place in program history in the high jump by clearing 2.00 meters (6' 6 ¾"). The jump was one-hundredth of a meter shy of his personal-best mark of 2.01 meters (6' 7") set indoors at the Tostrud Classic on Feb. 22, 2020.

Kramarczuk's time of 15.20 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles put the sophomore 10th on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event and was the best time of the afternoon. The sophomore also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.75, edging first year Jacob Colich's time of 59.96 seconds, and was second in the triple jump (13.00 meters).

Peper added a win in the discus with a throw of 30.84 meters and was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay (3:32.44) along with Daniel Nichols, Duncan Forbes, and Sam Stresemann. Forbes also won the 400-meter dash in 51.38 seconds for the Oles.

St. Olaf's other individual event wins came from first year Matthew Nissen in the 100-meter dash (11.79), sophomore Sean Souksavath in the 200-meter dash (24.21), senior Nick Edwards in the shot put (10.40m), and sophomore Lars Askegaard in the pole vault (3.65m). Colich, Souksavath, Nissen, and Henry Fisher combined to win the 4x100-meter relay in 46.52 seconds as well.

The Oles travel across town for the Carleton Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 16-17 at Laird Stadium.
