Parker paces men's golf in sixth-place finish at MIAC Championships

HASTINGS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's golf team recorded its lowest round of the season with a 307 (+19) on the final day of the 2020-21 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Golf Championships on Sunday at Emerald Greens Golf Course.

Junior Casey Parker posted St. Olaf's top score in the final round, carding a 74 (+2) that included a one-under 35 on the front nine. Parker's 74 was his second of the weekend as he finished t-18th with a three-round total of 224 (+8).

Senior Seth Johnson was one shot behind Parker on the day with a 75 (+3) and tied for 21st for the tournament with a 226 (+10) for the best finish of his career at the conference championships. 

Junior Cooper Lukenda had the Oles' third-best score for the tournament with a 235 (+19), which included a final-round 78 (+6), to place 31st. Sophomore Ben Borchard and senior Ben Johnson both recorded scores of 80 (+8) on Sunday and finished 38th and t-39th, respectively.

St. Olaf held off Carleton to close out the weekend in sixth place with a team score of 924 (+60) after recording its three lowest rounds as a team this season in the tournament. The Knights were three shots behind the Oles in seventh.

Saint John's led wire-to-wire on its way to the team title with a conference-record team score of 850 (-14), 14 shots ahead of St. Thomas, as the Johnnies had four of the top-10 individual scores for the event. Thomas Guetzmer of Saint John's and Matthew Armstrong of St. Thomas shared individual medalist honors with scores of 208 (-8).

HASTINGS, Minn. – Senior Seth Johnson shot a team-best 75 (+3) as the St. Olaf College men's golf team remains in sixth place on the team leaderboard following the second round of the 2020-21 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Golf Championships held on Saturday at Emerald Greens.

Johnson had four birdies, including three in a four-hole stretch on the back nine, and is tied for 19th heading into tomorrow's final round. After shooting a five-over 41 on the front nine, the senior carded a two-under 34 on the back.

Junior Casey Parker followed up an opening-round 74 (+2) with a 76 (+4) on Saturday and is 18th after 36 holes. Parker also had four birdies in his second round, two on each side.

Sophomore Ben Borchard put together a career-best round of 78 (+6) to move up two spots into 34th, while junior Cooper Lukenda is tied for 30th after a second-round 80 (+8) and senior Ben Johnson is tied for 36th after his second-straight round of 81 (+9).

As a team, St. Olaf held steady in sixth in the nine-team field and is five shots clear of seventh-place Carleton with 18 holes remaining.

Due to the forecast for inclement weather on Sunday afternoon, tee times for the final round have been moved up to begin at 8 a.m. The Oles will get their third round under way at 8:30 a.m.

HASTINGS, Minn. – Junior Casey Parker of the St. Olaf College men's golf team shot a first-round 74 (+2) and is tied for ninth after the opening round of the 2020-21 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Golf Championships held on Friday at Emerald Greens Golf Course.

Parker had two birdies on the front as part of a one-under 35 on the front nine and is five shots behind the leader after one round. As a team, St. Olaf is in sixth place after shooting a 308 (+20), which is the team's lowest score of the season by five shots.

Senior Seth Johnson joined Parker in the top 20 after carding a 76 (+4) that included three birdies. Junior Cooper Lukenda was one-over at the turn after a 37 before finishing with a 77 (+5) and is tied for 22nd.

The Oles are just seven shots behind third-place Concordia-Moorhead on a congested team leaderboard. Saint John's leads the way after a 284 (-4) with St. Thomas two shots behind after a 286 (-2).

St. Olaf tees off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 1 in the second of three rounds of the event.
