NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior
Stephen Peper finished as the runner-up and posted a top-15 national score as three members of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team competed on the second day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Decathlon on Friday at Carleton College's Laird Stadium.
Peper was second in the standings entering day two after winning three of Thursday's five events and maintained his second-place standing on Friday. The junior recorded personal-best performance in the 110-meter hurdles (17.40), javelin throw (38.44m), and 1,500 meters (4:53.41) on his way to compiling a score of 6,122 points to finish second to Maguire Petersen of Saint John's (6,357 pts.).
Peper's score of 6,122 points ranks fifth on St. Olaf's all-time decathlon list and is 15th in the country as of Friday afternoon. The second-place finish also earned the junior All-MIAC honors.

Nick Edwards finished ninth and 11th with scores of 5,564 and 5,496, respectively. Lord logged personal-best performances in four of Friday's five events, including his fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (17.40). Edwards' best finish came in the 1,500 meters where he was eighth (4:55.29) with one of his two personal-best results of the day.
St. Olaf hosts the Ole Open on Saturday, May 8 at 11 a.m. in its final preparation for next weekend's MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Nick Edwards of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team are all in the top seven after the first day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Decathlon held on Wednesday afternoon at Carleton College's Laird Stadium.
Peper won three of the day's five events and is second in the standings with 3,562 points, while Lord won the 100-meter dash and is fourth with 3,127 points. Edwards concluded the opening day in seventh with 3,070 points.
On day one, Peper won the long jump (6.66m), tied for first in the high jump (2.05m), and finished first in the 400-meter dash (50.89), as he sits 17 points behind Maguire Petersen of Saint John's. Peper's time in the 400 meters was a personal-best, as was his throw of 10.23 meters in the shot put.
Lord started the day by winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.42 seconds and added a fourth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.81 meters for a new personal-best result in the event. The first year also set a new PR in the long jump with a mark of 5.99 meters.
Edwards' best finishes on the day came via a third-place showing in the high jump (1.84m) and a fourth-place performance in the shot put (10.81m). He also had personal-best results in the long jump (5.77m) and 400-meter dash (54.20).

Woody Rian had to pull out of the competition after two events due to injury.
Day two of the competition will start at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 7 and will include the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500-meter run.
