BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Sophomore
Ethan Ross posted the top individual finish of the weekend for the St. Olaf College men's and women's alpine skiing teams by finishing third on Friday, as the Oles competed in a pair of slalom races at the Tengdin FIS Series at Buck Hill on Friday and Saturday.
Ross finished third on Friday with a time of 1:08.50 over three runs, falling 0.57 seconds behind the first-place finisher. The result was one of six top-10 performances for St. Olaf over the two-day event.
In addition to Ross' podium finish, first year
Graham Barwick placed sixth (1:08.70), including posting the third-fastest opening run of the day (21.77). Junior
Kaarl Damberg made it three Oles in the top 15 by placing 13th (1:11.05), while senior
Nathan Girk, senior
Sean Nolan, and first year
Matthew Degnan were 31st, 39th, and 41st, respectively.
First year
Kate Young led three St. Olaf women on Friday with a 10th-place showing in 1:22.65 over the three runs, while senior
Sheridan Westphal and first year
Lexi Jorgensen were 23rd and 24th, respectively.
The Oles had five top-20 finishes on the men's side on Saturday, led by Damberg's sixth-place performance (1:10.56). Barwick recorded his second top-10 result of the weekend by placing eighth (1:10.86) and had the second-fastest first run of the day (21.55) for the men. Ross, Nolan, and Smith joined Damberg and Barwick in the top 20 in 13th, 17th, and 20th, respectively.
Sophomore
Merumo Ishimaru was the top finisher for the Ole women on Saturday, coming in 10th (1:17.06), as all four St. Olaf competitors placed in the top 20. Young logged another top-15 finish in 13th (1:17.65), while Westphal and Jorgensen were 16th and 20th, respectively.
St. Olaf is scheduled to compete at the FIS/USSS races at Mt. La Crosse on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 22-23.
