Alpine teams complete USCSA Championships with dual slalom

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's alpine skiing teams concluded their weeks at the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships by competing in the dual slalom on Saturday at Whiteface Mountain.

The St. Olaf men were the No. 9 seed in the bracket and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Sierra Nevada University. After a first-round bye, the Oles defeated No. 8 seed Colgate University before bowing out in the quarterfinals.

The Ole women were the No. 11 seed and began the competition by defeating the No. 22 seed The Claremont Colleges before falling to the No. 6 seed College of Idaho in the second round.

At the end of the USCSA National Championships, the St. Olaf women won the USCSA President's Award, which is given to the institution that performs the best across the alpine (slalom and giant slalom) and Nordic (individual start and team sprint) competitions for each gender. The Ole women won the award with a score of 77 points, followed by Cornell (82), and Castleton (97). The St. Olaf men finished third in the standings with 101 points, trailing Clarkson (55), and Castleton (76).

With the USCSA season wrapped up, St. Olaf has one more event on its schedule, as the Oles head to Lutsen Mountain for an FIS/USSS event from March 24-27.
