Golf teams set for MIAC Championships this weekend

COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's golf teams are set to compete at the three-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships at Bunker Hills Golf Course held Saturday through Monday, Oct. 1-3.

The MIAC Golf Championships return to Bunker Hills for the second year in a row and include nine men's teams and 10 women's teams for the 54-hole tournament. The men's tournament gets under way on Saturday morning starting at 8 a.m., while women's tee times begin at 10:16 a.m. on day one. Tee times for Sunday and Monday depend on the standings. Tee times are available on the championship home page.

Both fields will play the East then West courses each day. Programs will enter five golfers in the tournament, with the four best scores each day making up the team score. Live scoring is available for both tournaments here: men | women.

On the men's side, St. Olaf's five competitors are fifth-year senior Casey Parker, junior Tyler Leibl, sophomore Josh Sansom, first year Isaac Schmidt, and junior Harry Olander. Parker holds St. Olaf's top scoring average this season at 76.8, is a three-time All-MIAC honoree, and has finished in the top 20 at all three of the MIAC Championships he has competed in.

Schmidt owns the Oles' second-best scoring average this season at 78.2, followed by Leibl at 78.7 and Sansom at 79.3 All three will participate in their first MIAC Championships this weekend, while Olander aims to improve on a 42nd-place finish last season.

On the women's side, St. Olaf's five competitors are junior Sydney Monge, junior Bergen Senf, sophomore Kadyn Triebenbach, sophomore Isabella Dobrinski, and sophomore Kate Young. Monge and Senf rank 1-2 for the Oles in scoring average at 79.1 and 79.9, respectively, and have both placed in the top 20 at the MIAC Championships in each of their prior appearances.

Senf was an All-MIAC honoree in each of the last two seasons, while Monge earned Honorable Mention All-MIAC honors both years. Triebenbach, Dobrinski, and Young all competed in the MIAC Championships last season for St. Olaf as well.

The St. Olaf men have won eight MIAC team titles in program history, most recently finishing atop the field in 1982, while the women won back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012. A year ago, the Oles placed seventh on the men's side and eighth on the women's side.
