ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams combined for 16 top-five finishes at the Holst Invitational at a chilly Sea Foam Stadium on the campus of Concordia University, St. Paul on Saturday.
First year
Sebastian Loder recorded the lone event win of the day for St. Olaf with his first-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 50.93 seconds for one of seven top-five finishes for the Ole men. The St. Olaf women logged nine top-five performances, led by a runner-up result from first year
Grace Moeller in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
MEN'S RECAP
In just his third-career meet, Loder picked up his first event victory by winning the 400-meter dash by nearly eight-tenths of a second. The first year has now placed first or second in the event in two of the three meets he has competed in.
Sophomores
Andrew Cogley and
Dylan Arnold both registered second-place performances, as Cogley was second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.67) and Arnold was second in the pole vault (4.25m, 13' 11 ¼"). First years
Cullen Moore and
Alex Bittner added top-five showings in the 800-meter run and were separated by just one one-thousandth of a second, as Moore was fourth (2:00.878) and Bittner was fifth (2:00.879).
St. Olaf's other top-five results came from sophomore
Layton Borst in the pole vault (3.95m, 12' 11 ½") and first year
Will Skemp in the 110-meter hurdles (17.16).
WOMEN'S RECAP
Moeller led a 2-3 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for St. Olaf with her second-place performance (11:40.55), while sophomore
Ava Craven crossed the line next in third (12:33.56). Sophomore
Sophie Abernethy and first year
Ella Landis logged top-four finishes in the 1,500-meter run, with Abernethy taking third (4:49.62) and Landis placing fourth (4:50.66).
Sophomore
Jules Fromm trailed only a pair of NCAA Division II competitors in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in third (2:24.09), while first year
Abbie Manhard posted a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:16.44).
Junior
Rachel Nelsen, sophomore
Zoe Matre, junior
Ququ Holman, and junior
Karla Kroschel were third in the 4x100-meter relay (53.16), while Kroschel took fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.94). First year
Rachael Wilson joined Kroschel in the top five in fifth (1:02.87).
Both teams have multiple student-athletes competing in the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa next week from Thursday through Saturday, April 27-29. St. Olaf also competes at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational at Macalester College on Saturday, April 29.
