ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior
Logan Bocovich and junior
Will Kelly closed out their stellar seasons for the St. Olaf College men's track and field team with top-20 finishes on the final day of the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Polisseni Track & Field Complex.
Kelly ran to a 10th-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Bocovich recorded an 18th-place performance in the 5,000-meter run for St. Olaf, which finished in a tie for 63rd in the team standings with three points from Bocovich's sixth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday. This year marked the fourth-straight season the Oles scored points in the team standings.
After qualifying for the finals in 10th in the prelims on Thursday, Kelly took 10th in the finals with a time of 9:06.88. The junior was either ninth or 10th in the field at the conclusion of each lap while competing as St. Olaf's first national qualifier in the event since 2015. The race wrapped up Kelly's season that saw him become the first Ole to win the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) title in the event in eight years while breaking the 41-year-old school record in the event.
As one of 10 runners in the field who were doubling-up in the 5,000-meter run after running in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday night, Bocovich crossed the line in 18th in 15:03.23 in the final race of his career to close out a decorated senior campaign. The senior is believed to be the first Ole to compete in both the 5K and 10K events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the same year and was the first St. Olaf qualifier in the 5,000-meter run since 2015. Bocovich concluded his career as the program record-holder in both events, as well as the indoor 5,000-meter run, and won MIAC titles in both events this spring.
