NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 13-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country team began its season with a second-place finish at the five-team Ole 5K Opener on Friday evening on its home course.
St. Olaf had six of the top-20 finishers and 10 of the first 26 runners to cross the line to compile 49 points in the team standings. Macalester College had all five of its scorers in the top 10 to finish atop the standings with 37 points.
Senior
Will Kelly paced St. Olaf with a third-place finish in 16:02.9, trailing a pair of runners from the College of St. Scholastica in the field of 104 competitors. First year Wesley Sumer joined Kelly in the top 10 in seventh place in 16:37.5.
Junior
Olaf Coffey, junior
Andrew Skemp, and senior
Anders Cote were separated by less than a second in 12th, 13th, and 14th place and the trio was just over a second ahead of junior
Sean Hartney in 18th (16:47.4). Sophomore
Kevin Turlington, first year
Alex Bjork, and first year
Grant Crespi were also all among the top-25 finishers.
St. Olaf hosts its annual Alumni Meet on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.
