LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – In the first event of the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships, the St. Olaf women's Nordic skiing team won the 7.5K Freestyle and the men were fourth on Tuesday at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
Led by the fifth consecutive USCSA national title for junior
Lily Hubanks, the St. Olaf women put together a 1-3-11 finish from its top-three finishers to win the event with a score of 15 points, 10 ahead of the University of Wyoming in the 14-team field. First year
Wesley Sumner paced the St. Olaf men's fourth-place finish with a 10th-place individual performance.
Hubanks won her fifth race in a row at the USCSA National Championships with a time of 23:58.8 over the 7.5-kilometer race, finishing nearly nine seconds ahead of Dolcie Tanguay of Paul Smith's College. In their first USCSA National Championships, first year
Amae Kam-Magruder was third in 24:31.6 and classmate
Ava Rothe was 11th (26:54.5) to round out the Oles' three scorers.
Senior
Julia Everest gave St. Olaf four All-America performances on the day with a 14th-place time of 27:31.5 to claim her seventh USCSA All-America accolade. Sophomore
Hjelle Personius finished 27th (29:04.0) and sophomore
Grace Chandler was 36th (30:02.1).
Sumner and sophomore
Tait Myers both secured their first USCSA All-America accolades with top-15 finishes for the St. Olaf men, who accumulated 42 points in the 13-team standings. Sumner placed ninth (22:36.6) and Myers was 12th (22:48.5), while sophomore
Felix Taracena turned in St. Olaf's third counting time in 21st (24:00.2).
First year
Trey Bosworth finished 43rd (25:28.9) as well. St. Olaf trailed team champion Clarkson University (16), Paul Smith's College (28), and Western Colorado University (33) and was well ahead of the fifth-place University of Wyoming (63).
