VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior
Demetri Lord of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team wrapped up a 13th-place finish in the heptathlon on the final day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Virginia Beach Sports Center.
After starting the day in 17th place through four events, Lord worked his way to Second Team All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the 1,000-meter run in the final event of the two-day competition. The senior compiled 4,722 points over the seven events to finish 13th and claim his first All-America accolade.
Lord started the day with a 10th-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles (8.60) to rise one spot to 16th with two events remaining. The senior dipped to 18th after tying for 16th in the pole vault (3.65m, 11' 11 ¾") but jumped all the way up to 13th with a fifth-place result in the 1,000-meter run (2:47.87). Lord's 13th-place finish marked an improvement of three spots from his 16th-place result last season.
St. Olaf is scheduled to begin its outdoor campaign by sending a group of competitors to the WashU Distance Carnival on Friday, March 29.
