LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The St. Olaf College women's Nordic skiing team claimed its third U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) national title as this year's USCSA National Championships by winning the 15K Classic, while the men's team finished fifth, on Friday at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
First year
Amae Kam-Magruder and junior
Lily Hubanks led St. Olaf to the team title with a 1-2 finish, while senior
Julia Everest also earned USCSA All-America honors by finishing eighth. The trio's 1-2-8 finish gave the Oles 11 points in the team standings as St. Olaf finished 17 points clear of the University of Wyoming.
Kam-Magruder won her first USCSA individual title with a time of 52:04.7 over the 15-kilometer course to finish 1:48.86 ahead of Hubanks' second-place time of 53:53.6. Kam-Magruder and Hubanks both picked up their third USCSA All-America accolades in as many events this season with the 1-2 finish, as did Everest with her eighth-place performance (57:33.5).
On the men's side, first year
Wesley Sumner and sophomore
Tait Myers both placed in the top 20, with Sumner recording his third USCSA All-America performance of the week with an 11th-place showing (43:53.3). Myers was less than two minutes behind Sumner in 19th (45:47.5), while first year
Trey Bosworth was 26th overall (47:28.6). As a team, the St. Olaf men were fifth with 56 points, just four behind Cornell University.
The Oles conclude their week at the USCSA National Championships with the Freestyle Team Sprint on Saturday, March 9.
