NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 14-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country team finished second of five teams at the Ole 5K Opener on Friday evening at the St. Olaf Cross Country Course.
Led by a third-place finish from junior
Kevin Turlington, St. Olaf, which traditionally treats the meet as a workout, collected 41 points in the standings to place second to Macalester College's total of 20 points, as the Scots placed seven of the top-nine individuals. The Oles and Scots combined to place each of the top-17 individual finishers.
Turlington took third in the field of 87 runners with a time of 16:16.3 and was joined in the top five by senior
Sean Hartney, who was fifth in 16:18.6. After Turlington and Hartney, a group of five Oles finished 10th through 14th, led by junior
Ignatius Fitzgerald in 10th (16:26.2), junior
Parker Max in 11th (16:26.5), and fifth-year senior
Anders Cote in 12th (16:28.2).
First years
Jackson Bullock and
Cooper Gundersen were also in the top 15 for St. Olaf, with Bullock in 13th (16:32.9) and Gundersen right behind in 14th (16:37.0). Junior
Cullen Moore also cracked the top 20 in 16th (16:40.3).
The Oles host their annual Alumni 5K Race on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 10 a.m.
