MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Junior
Paige Steenblock repeated as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) champion in the 400-yard individual medley, as the St. Olaf College men's and women's swimming and diving teams maintained their standings in the 2025 MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Steenblock broke the school record and defended her conference crown in the 400-yard IM, while first year
Olivia Small set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke with her runner-up finish. The St. Olaf women remained in third place with 370.5 points, while the men stayed in fifth with 278.5 points heading into the final day.
After posting the top qualifying time in the morning, Steenblock eased to the win in the 400-yard IM, winning by over six seconds in 4:27.67 to break the program record of 4:29.89 set by Helen Jensen in 2017. The junior earned her third consecutive All-MIAC accolade in the event, as she was the runner-up as a first year in 2023 prior to the back-to-back titles. Steenblock's time was also a national-qualifying time last year.
Small broke the school record set by Carolyn Bernhardt in 2013 by two one-hundredths of a second with her second-place time of 56.56 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke. The first year claimed All-MIAC honors with the performance and her time was also a NCAA invited time last season.
After being an Honorable Mention All-MIAC honoree in the event in each of the last two seasons, senior
Ellen Varley landed All-MIAC honors in the 100-yard butterfly with a third-place finish (58.23). First year
McKenna Hultgren slid into the honorable-mention spots in sixth (59.29) and moved into eighth place on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event with her finals time.

Samantha Sylvester took third in the 200-yard freestyle relay to collect all-conference honors in 1:37.25, which was nearly three seconds faster than their seed time. First year
McKelvey McDaniel added an honorable-mention finish in the 200-yard freestyle in sixth (1:58.33).
Fifth-year senior
Marcus Hauck secured his first All-MIAC accolade in the 100-yard backstroke by finishing third (52.26) after being an honorable-mention honoree in each of the last three seasons in the event. St. Olaf's 200-yard freestyle relay of junior

Aiden Yung made it back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the 400-yard IM, improving his time by nearly six seconds from the prelims with a finals time of 4:11.76
The final day of the MIAC Championships will include a prelims session at 10:30 a.m. and a finals session at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.
