BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Junior
Zach Martin of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team was honored as the recipient of the 2024-25 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Elite 22 Award for men's outdoor track and field, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Martin became the second St. Olaf student-athlete to earn the accolade in men's outdoor track and field, joining Phillip Meyer '15 in the first year of the award in 2013-14. The junior is the third Ole to receive the MIAC Elite 22 Award in men's track and field and the 15th St. Olaf student-athlete across all sports to land the honor.
The MIAC Elite 22 Award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in their sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Nominees for the annual award must be at least a junior in academic and athletic standing and must be in at least their second year of competition (in any sport) at their current institution. For individual sports, nominees must be recognized as all-conference honorees.
A mathematics and quantitative economics double-major, Martin holds a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and ran on St. Olaf's conference-champion 4x800-meter relay at the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships earlier this month.
