NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's track and field team had five first-place finishes at the unscored Ole Opener on Saturday at Tostrud Center.
Junior
Max Albertson won both the long jump and triple jump, while senior
Lance Nemecek was just three one-hundredths of a second shy of the school record in the 600-meter run to highlight the five event victories on the day for the Oles.
Nemecek won the 600-meter run by nearly five seconds with a time of 1:21.55, which was .03 seconds shy of Kevin Skrip's 2016 school record. Sophomore
Aaron Ruesink was the runner-up to Nemecek in 1:26.41 in his first meet as an Ole.
Albertson posted the top jumps of the day in the triple jump (13.35m, 43' 9 ¾") and the long jump (6.74m, 22' 1 ½"). The junior's mark in the triple jump ranks second in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season. Sophomore
Rik Cumps was second to Albertson in the long jump with a mark of 6.53 meters (21' 5 ¼").
First year
Tony Ali sprinted to a win in the 200-meter dash (23.34), with classmate
Noah Hruby also in the top five in fourth (23.59). Senior
Cullen Moore led four Oles in the top five in the 1,000-meter run with a first-place time of 2:31.78, followed by junior
Christian Fells in second (2:32.81), first year
Trigg Heimdal in third (2:33.53), and sophomore
Lucas Olson in fifth (2:37.16). All four of those times rank in the top five in the conference this season.
Sophomore
Cristian Escobar Pearson produced one of five second-place results for St. Olaf by taking second in the 60-meter dash (7.12). Ali was third in the event (7.19) after running a time of 7.13 seconds in the prelims to slot into sixth place on the Oles' all-time performers' list. Sophomore
Austin McInturff and senior
Owen Chamberlin also produced runner-up finishes on the track, with McIntruff doing so in the 400-meter run (51.62) and Chamberlin in the one-mile run (4:26.40).
St. Olaf will head to Macalester College for the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on Saturday, Jan. 24.
