EDINA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's golf team sat in fifth place after the first round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Golf Championships held on Friday at Braemar Golf Course.
Led by first year
Aliyah Kleven's even-par 72, St. Olaf shot a 313 (+25) to sit right in the middle of the nine-team standings, five shots behind fourth-place Gustavus Adolphus College and two ahead of sixth-place Bethel University. The Oles were also six shots out of third place.
Kleven stormed out of the gates with a birdie on the first hole and an eagle on the fourth hole as part of a three-under 33 on the front nine. She eventually ended the round at even par, which was good for fifth place. Kleven's 72 was a season-low round, is the lowest round in recorded program history at the MIAC Championships, and was one shot off the lowest round in recorded program history.
First year
Amita Crowley finished day one in a tie for 16th after a 78 (+6), while first year
Lexi Fertig was in a tie for 27th with an 80 (+8). Junior
Anneliese Carlson and first year
Sarah Dove both shot rounds of 83 (+11) to tie for 34th.
Carlson will be the first Ole off the tees at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3. Dove, Fertig, Crowley, and Kleven will follow in 10-minute increments.
