EDINA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's golf team shot the lowest team round in program history for the fourth time this season and surged three spots up the leaderboard to finish fourth on the final day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships on Sunday at Braemar Golf Course.
After beginning the day in seventh place, St. Olaf posted the first sub-300 round in team history with a 299 (+11) to leapfrog Carleton College, the College of Saint Benedict, and Bethel University on the final day. The fourth-place finish was the highest for the Oles' since their second of back-to-back MIAC titles in 2012-13. St. Olaf had finished seventh in the conference in each of the last four seasons.
The 299 surpassed the previous program-record round of 304 from the St. Kate's Fall Invitational on Sept. 19 by four strokes and was the lowest round for the Oles at the MIAC Championships by 10 strokes. St. Olaf's team score of 936 (+72) was also a 54-hole program record by three shots ahead of the 939 (+75) from the 2011 MIAC Championships.
St. Olaf finished the tournament six strokes ahead of Bethel, eight ahead of Saint Ben's, and nine ahead of Carleton by shooting the second-best team round of the final day. St. Catherine University completed a wire-to-wire team title with a 297 (+9) on Sunday.
