Men's track and field wins five events at Tostrud Classic heading into MIAC Indoor Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's track and field team won five events at the Tostrud Classic on Friday evening at Tostrud Center in its final preparations for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Ahead of next week's conference meet, St. Olaf won four events on the track and junior Max Albertson added a first-place finish in the long jump at the unscored meet. Albertson and sophomore Rik Cumps were both in the top three in the long jump and triple jump.

Sophomore Austin McInturff posted the top time of the night in the 400-meter dash (51.42), while sophomore Jakob Eenigenburg did so in the 600-meter run (1:23.39). Eenigenburg led four Oles in the top six in the 600, including sophomore Aaron Ruesink, who was the runner-up to Eenigenburg in 1:23.91.

St. Olaf had four of the top-five finishers in the 1,000-meter run, led by sophomore Jackson Bullock's winning time of 2:29.16, which ranks third in the conference this season, fifth on St. Olaf's all-time performers list, and 10th on its all-time performances list. Sophomore Garrett Seppanen (2:34.27), sophomore Micah Larsen-Schmidt (2:35.03), and senior Owen Chamberlin (2:35.10) finished third through fifth, respectively.

Junior Alex Bjork led a top-four sweep for the Oles in the 3,000-meter run with a winning time of 8:43.77. Junior Quinn McCabe took second (8:50.27), followed by seniors Parker Max (8:50.98) and Jack Deaver (8:53.48) in third and fourth.

In the jumps, Albertson won the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.95 meters (22' 9 ¾"), while Cumps took third (6.69m, 21' 11 ½"). Albertson was the runner-up in the triple jump (13.66m, 43' 9 ¾"), which ranks fourth in the MIAC this season, and Cumps was third (13.39m, 43' 11 ¼").

First year Tony Ali added a pair of top-four finishes in the sprints, placing third in the 200-meter dash (23.00) and fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.09). Ali's time in the 60 meters put him third on St. Olaf's all-time performers list in the event.

The heptathlon will kick off the three-day MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Carleton College's Recreation Center.
