NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior
Jesse Olson of the St. Olaf College men's track and field team finished seventh as one of two Oles to conclude the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Decathlon on Friday at Carleton College's Laird Stadium.
After starting the day in ninth place, Olson moved up into the scoring spots on day two, earning St. Olaf two points in the team standings with his seventh-place total of 5,488 points. That total was 564 points higher than her previous high score of 4,924 points.
Olson rose three spots to seventh with a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw (45.64m, 150' 1") in the fourth event day of the final day before cementing his position with a sixth-place result in the 1,500-meter urn (4:51.10). Earlier in the day, he set personal bests in the 110-meter hurdles (17.78) and pole vault (3.42m, 11' 2 ½").
First year
Brendan Steinhofer wrapped up the two-day competition in 16th place with 3,634 points. On Friday, Steinhofer established personal-best performances in the 110-meter hurdles (20.36) and 1,500-meter run (5:09.53).
St. Olaf will host the remainder of the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, starting with field events at 2 p.m. and track events at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8.
