HASTINGS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's golf team posted the lowest round in recorded program history for the second time in as many weekend in a fourth-place finish at the D3 Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Emerald Greens Golf Course.
After shooting a 307 in the opening round of the CSB Fall Invite last Saturday, St. Olaf did one shot better in Sunday's final round by carding a 306 (+18) to re-establish a new program-best round. For the weekend, the Oles finished fourth in the 17-team field with a score of 619 (+43) after rounds of 313 (+25) and 306 (+18).
St. Olaf was part of a congested team leaderboard that saw the top-seven teams separated by just 14 strokes. The Oles were one shot behind Gustavus Adolphus College, five behind Macalester College, and eight behind the College of Saint Benedict, while sitting two shots ahead of Bethel University, three ahead of Carleton College, and six ahead of UW-Eau Claire.
First years
Amita Crowley and
Aliyah Kleven paced St. Olaf as half of a four-way tie for eighth with 36-hole scores of 151 (+7). Kleven was in the top 10 for the second time in as many tournaments to start her collegiate career with rounds of 76 (+4) and 75 (+3) and was tied for second in the field with seven birdies for the weekend. She also had the joint fourth-fewest bogeys (6) over the two rounds.
Crowley matched Kleven with a 151 (+7) behind rounds of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4) while ranking tied for third in the field in par-five scoring (4.70) and pars (24) and tied for fourth in par-three scoring (3.20). As a team, the Oles were tied for second among the 17 teams in par-three scoring (3.50) and second in pars (102).
Lexi Fertig made it three first years who accounted for St. Olaf's top-three scores by finishing 23rd (156, +12) after putting together rounds of 79 (+7) and 77 (+5). Fertig was tied for third in the field in pars (24) and tied for seventh in par-four scoring (4.25).
Junior
Anneliese Carlson moved up 17 spots in round two to tie for 34th (161, +17) behind a 78 (+6) on Sunday that followed an opening-round 83 (+11). Carlson did most of her damage on the par fives, ranking tied for third in the tournament in par-five scoring (4.70).
St. Olaf will be in action at the St. Kate's Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20 at Eagle Valley Golf Course and Braemar Golf Course.
