DECORAH, Iowa – In its first outdoor meet of the season, the St. Olaf College men's track and field team won eight events on its way to winning the Norse Invitational on Saturday at Carlson Stadium.
Seven different Oles won at least one event, led by two event wins from junior
Lucas Kramarczuk, as St. Olaf racked up 278 points in the team standings to finish well-clear of second-place Gustavus' total of 192.5 points. The meet was highlighted by 17 top-five performances in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), three top-25 national results, four top-10 performances in program history, and two meet records by the Oles.
Kramarczuk began his outdoor season by winning the long jump (6.60m) and the 110-meter hurdles (15.01), while also finishing third in the triple jump (13.25m). The junior's time of 15.01 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles established a new program record, ranks second in the MIAC, and is 22nd in NCAA Division III this season, while his other two results are both in the top five in the conference to date.
Junior
Will Kelly broke the meet record by over 30 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 9:20.08 to win the event by nearly 50 seconds. The time is the fastest in the MIAC this season, the 15th-best in the country, and ranks fifth in program history.
First year
Dylan Arnold cleared 4.45 meters to post the highest clearance this season in the MIAC in the pole vault and move into 10th place on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event. Sophomore
Rayan Elahi added a runner-up finish in the event (3.80m).
Senior
Stephen Peper led the way in the high jump, winning the event by clearing 1.98 meters to log the second-highest clearance in the conference this season. The clearance also ranks 22nd nationally this season.
First year
Cade Feist won the shot put with a throw of 14.97 meters on his final attempt, moving into eighth place in program history with the third-best throw in the MIAC this spring. Senior
Aengus White added a win in the discus throw (45.28m), which ranks second in the MIAC and eighth in program history.
Junior
Kevin Montresor also picked up a win in the 5,000-meter run, leading a 1-3-4-5-6 finish for the Oles with a time of 15:24.00. St. Olaf also had a 2-3-5 finish in the 1,500-meter run from senior
Reuben Kosche, sophomore
Ian Curtis, and junior
Noah Massanari, with all three runners breaking the previous meet record. Kosche was second (3:56.07), Curtis was third (3:58.15), and Massanari was fifth (3:58.54) with top-five times in the conferences this season.
Curtis was also the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.57, which ranks fifth in the conference. Sophomore
Demetri Lord trailed only Kramarczuk in the 110-meter hurdles (15.61) to post the MIAC's number four time in the event this season.
St. Olaf has two meets on the schedule on Thursday, April 14, sending a contingent of runners to the UW-Platteville Invitational (6 p.m.) and the rest of the team to the Lee Krough Invitational at Gustavus (4 p.m.).
