BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For the second week in a row, the St. Olaf College men's track and field team collected both of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week accolades, as juniors
Will Kelly and
Demetri Lord were honored on Tuesday afternoon.
Kelly was named the MIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row, while Lord was selected as the MIAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career following their standout performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational last week.
Kelly ran NCAA Division III's fourth-fastest time in the country in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday, clocking in at 8:58.95. The junior's time ranks second on St. Olaf's all-time list, is just 20 seconds off the pace of the MIAC record, and is just over three seconds outside the top-25 all-time performer list in NCAA Division III history. Kelly also competed in the 5,000-meter run and finished with the MIAC's third-fastest time this season at 14:23.97.
Lord compiled a top-15 decathlon score in NCAA Division III this season, finishing seventh in his group with a score of 6,054 points. The junior's score ranks 14th in the country, first in the MIAC, and ninth on St. Olaf's all-time list. As the lone Division III competitor in his group, Lord set personal-bests in the 100-meter dash (11.02), 400-meter run (51.89), and 1,500-meter run (4:49.62).
St. Olaf sends a group of 10K runners to the Phil Esten Challenge in La Crosse, Wis. on Friday before the rest of the team heads to Concordia-St. Paul for the Host Invitational on Saturday, April 22.
