Nordmeyer steps down as head alpine skiing coach

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - After six seasons leading the St. Olaf College men's and women's alpine skiing teams, Doug Nordmeyer has stepped down as head coach, as announced by Deputy Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Kelly Mahlum on Monday.

Over his six seasons as St. Olaf's head coach, Nordmeyer led the Oles to top-12 finishes at the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships in both genders in each season and coached student-athletes who produced 10 All-America performances (five men, five women). He also coached 29 USCSA Scholar All-Americans during his time on the Hill.

"I would like to thank Doug for everything he has done for our men's and women's alpine skiing programs during his time on the Hill," Mahlum said. "Our student-athletes had a great deal of success under his leadership and we will miss his dedication to the sport. We wish him the best in the future."

Since coming to St. Olaf prior to the 2018-19 season, Nordmeyer guided the men's team to top-eight finishes at the USCSA National Championships in all five seasons of the event (canceled in 2020-21), including fourth-place finishes in both 2019-20 and 2022-23. He also directed the women's team to three top-five finishes over that span, including a third-place finish in 2018-19 and a fourth-place finish in 2023-24.

Over the last five editions of the USCSA National Championships, the St. Olaf men's team placed finished in the top 10 in a team event 11 times, while the women did so nine times. The Oles were the national runner-up in the men's dual slalom in 2019 and produced three third-place finishes in women's team events under Nordmeyer's direction.

In tandem with the St. Olaf men's and women's Nordic skiing teams, the Oles finished in the top three in the USCSA President's Award standings in both genders in each of the five seasons of the competition during Nordmeyer's time at St. Olaf, including winning the women's President's Award in each of the last three seasons.

A national search will begin to fill the position immediately.
