LANSING, Mich. – Behind All-America finishes from senior
Logan Bocovich and junior
Will Kelly, the No. 14-ranked St. Olaf College men's cross country team posted a 14th-place performance at the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Forest Akers Golf Course.
Bocovich and Kelly both placed in the top-15 runners to lead St. Olaf to 14th place in the field of 32 teams with a total of 413 points. The top-15 finish was the 14th in program history for the Oles, who were making their 20th appearance at the national meet (1973, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022).
Competing in feels-like temperatures in the single digits with strong winds, St. Olaf improved three spots from its 17th-place showing a year ago. The Oles have appeared in 12 of the last 14 NCAA Championships as a team.
In his second appearance at the national meet, Bocovich recorded the best individual finish by an Ole since 2015 by crossing the line in eighth place (25:09.3) and was joined in the top 15 by Kelly in 13th (25:16.8). The tandem's top-15 finishes marked the first time two Oles placed in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships since Jake Campbell and Paul Escher '16 were fifth and sixth in 2015.
Junior
David Lynn more than halved his finish at the national meet from a year ago by finishing 11th (26:09.9) after placing 233rd a year ago, while sophomore
Andrew Skemp took 176th (26:28.6) in his first NCAA Championships. Junior
