WAVERLY, Iowa – Junior
Lucas Kramarczuk broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles to highlight the St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field team's performances at the Wartburg Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday.
Men's Recap
Kramarczuk entered the meet as the school-record holder in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds from the Chuck Petersen Open on Dec. 4 and ran faster times than that in both the prelims and finals on Saturday. The junior established the new school record of 8.32 seconds in the prelims before clocking in at 8.33 seconds in the finals to place sixth in the event.
Sophomore
Demetri Lord was in action in the heptathlon on both Friday and Saturday and bettered his third-best score in program history with a personal-best score of 4,629 points to finish third. The sophomore posted personal-best performances in the 60-meter dash (7.17), 60-meter hurdles (8.48), pole vault (3.35m), and 1,000-meter run (2:56.04) and placed in the top three in four events, including winning the 60-meter hurdles. Lord's time in the 60-meter hurdles moved him into a tie for second on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event and tied the meet record, while his time in the 60-meter dash bettered his own fifth-best time in program history.
Sophomore
Ian Curtis recorded a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:26.13, while senior
Reuben Kosche was 13th (8:46.05). St. Olaf also had three competitors in the men's 5,000-meter run, as first year
Andrew Skemp set a new personal-best time of 14:53.49 to finish sixth, sophomore
Will Kelly was seventh (14:57.81), and junior
Logan Bocovich was 19th (15:41.52).
First year
Cade Feist added a seventh-place performance in the shot put (14.46m) to move into sole possession of eighth on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event. Classmate
Dylan Arnold logged a sixth-place showing in the pole vault, falling just .01 meters shy of his PR by clearing 4.56 meters.
Women's Recap
First years
Sofia Carlson and
Alison Bode posted a 1-2 finish in the women's 5,000-meter run for the top finishes of the day for the St. Olaf women. Carlson won the event in 17:49.77 and was less than a second ahead of Bode, who crossed the line in 17:50.45.
Sophomore
Aleah Keske finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.84 meters on her fifth attempt. After a strong showing in the pentathlon on Friday, junior
Rebekah Salfer placed 19th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.44), while junior
Annika Muller (14th, 10.89m) and sophomore
Ainslee Parker (15th, 10.63m) competed in the triple jump.
The meet served as the final opportunity for student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, held March 25-26 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The top-20 times/marks in each individual event and the top 12 relays qualify for the national meet. The qualifiers are expected to be announced at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 6 on NCAA.com.
