ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senior
Lucas Kramarczuk recorded a pair of runner-up finishes for the St. Olaf College men's track and field team, as the Oles are in third place following the first full day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday at the Leonard Center.
Kramarczuk broke his own school record in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles before going on to place second in the finals and added another runner-up performance in the long jump to record two of St. Olaf's three All-MIAC finishes on the day. As a team, the Oles earned 68 points in the team standings, a total that trails only Bethel University (81.5) and Saint John's University (79.5).
In the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, Kramarczuk shattered his previous school record of 8.22 seconds set earlier this year by winning the first heat in 8.10 seconds, which ranks in the top 10 in NCAA Division III this season. After qualifying second, the senior edged Bethel University's Josh Sampson at the line by one one-hundredth of a second to take second in the final with a time of 8.21 seconds. The All-MIAC accolade was Kramarczuk's second in the indoor hurdles after finishing third in the 55-meter event last season. Junior
Demetri Lord, who won the MIAC title in the heptathlon earlier in the day, also scored in the event for St. Olaf by taking seventh (8.84).
Kramarczuk led a 2-4-5 finish for the Oles in the long jump, collecting his first All-MIAC honor in the event with a second-place jump of 6.55 meters (21' 6"), trailing only Zach Schaffer of Saint John's mark of 6.70 meters (21' 11 ¾"). Sophomores
Josh Charlton and
Eh Ler Moo both secured Honorable Mention All-MIAC status by placing fourth and fifth, respectively, with marks of 6.46 meters (12' 2 ½") and 6.38 meters (20' 11 ¼").
St. Olaf also had three scorers in the 5,000-meter run and had five of the event's top-10 finishers. Junior
Will Kelly landed his second-straight All-MIAC accolade in the event, crossing the line in 14:50.74. Kelly took the lead halfway through the race before Augsburg University's Mohammed Bati finished strong over the final three laps to edge Kelly by a little over four seconds. Junior
Anders Cote improved 10 spots from his 15th-place finish a year ago by coming in fifth (15:07.93) to earn an honorable mention spot, while senior
