Will Kelly claimed his third Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) individual title of the year with a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the St. Olaf College men's track and field team finished off a third-place finish in the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Klas Field.
Kelly led a 1-2-4-5-6 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for St. Olaf, which accounted for 30 of the Oles' 109 points in the meet. St. Olaf's 109 points over the two-day meet was good for third in the field of 11 teams, 16 points ahead of fourth-place Carleton College. Bethel University edged Saint John's University by 11 points for the team title with 179 points.
Kelly defended his conference crown in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a winning time of 9:02.59, finishing just over 10 seconds ahead of sophomore
Ignatius Fitzgerald. The MIAC individual title was the fourth of Kelly's career and the All-MIAC accolade was his third in a row in the event. Kelly also did the 3K/5K double at this year's MIAC Indoor Championships, in addition to his back-to-back steeplechase titles.
In his first MIAC outdoor meet, Fitzgerald was the runner-up to Kelly in 9:12.93 to add an All-MIAC accolade to his resume. Senior

Gabe Estrada, and sophomore
Jack Deaver swept the honorable-mention spots in fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively, with Cote posting his second consecutive top-four finish. Deaver's time of 9:28.45 moved him up from 10th to eighth on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event.
Sophomore
Kevin Turlington and junior
Andrew Skemp posted a 4-5 finish in the 5,000-meter run to land honorable-mention honors. Turlington was fourth (14:50.97) and Turlington was fifth (14:58.25) to lead St. Olaf four scorers in the event that earned 12 points in the team standings.
First year
Max Albertson recorded his second top-five finish of his first MIAC Outdoor Championships with a fifth-place performance in the triple jump. Albertson's top jump of the day of 13.29 meters (43' 7 ¼") came on his final attempt and was the best of his brief collegiate career.
St. Olaf picked up three additional Honorable Mention All-MIAC results on the track, including one from Albertson, senior
Henry Fisher, sophomore
Lance Nemecek, and senior
Demetri Lord in the 4x400-meter relay (6th, 3:22.76). Lord also placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.18), while sophomore
Cullen Moore was sixth in the 800-meter run (1:55.59).
The Oles will host the Ole Last Chance Multi on Wednesday and Thursday, May 15-16 at Manitou Track. The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 23-25 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
