NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's track and field team won six events at the Tostrud Classic in its final meet before the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening at Tostrud Center.
Senior
Sean Hartney and junior
Lance Nemecek each won an individual event on the track and were part of St. Olaf's first-place 4x400-meter relay at the unscored meet. Sophomores
Max Albertson and
Lex Kaye also logged first-place finishes for the Oles.
Hartney led a 1-7 finish for St. Olaf in the 1,000-meter run with a winning time of 2:29.76, which ranks second in the MIAC this season and sixth on the program's all-time list. Classmate
Olaf Coffey was second in 2:31.18 for the fourth-fastest time in the conference so far, while junior
Cullen Moore took third in 2:23.09.
Nemecek was one of three Oles in the top five in the 800-meter run with a first-place time of 1:56.40. First year
Gavin Vogel and junior
Alex Bittner joined Nemecek and Hartney on the winning 4x400-meter relay (3:29.09), while Kaye added another track win in the 3,000-meter run (8:59.44).
Albertson and senior
Eh Ler Moo finished first and third, respectively, in the long jump with marks of 6.89 meters (22' 7 ¼") and 6.46 meters (21' 2 ½"). First year
Kale Kardonsky posted a pair of top-five finishes in the throws, placing second in the shot put (15.25m, 50' ½") and fifth in the weight throw (14.33m, 47' ¼").
First years
Jackson Bullock and
Cristian Escobar Pearson produced performances that ranked on St. Olaf's all-time top-10 list as well. Bullock broke onto the list in 10th in the 600-meter run with a runner-up time of 1:23.58, while Escobar Pearson bettered his fourth-fastest standing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds in the prelims.
The MIAC Indoor Championships will begin with day one of the heptathlon on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 2:20 p.m. at The Donald McNeely Spectrum on the campus of Saint John's University.
