ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senior
Logan Bocovich ran a top-20 time in NCAA Division III history in the 5,000-meter run to headline the St. Olaf College men's track and field team's performances at the unscored Joe Sweeney Invitational at O'Shaughnessy Stadium on the campus of the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday.
Bocovich won the 5,000-meter run in 14:01.17 to break onto the NCAA Division III all-time performers list in 19th place, according to the
list compiled by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The time broke the senior's previous school record of 14:14.49 by over 13 seconds, while ranking first in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and seventh in NCAA Division III this season.
Junior
Will Kelly joined Bocovich in running a top-20 national time in the event, placing second to his teammate in 14:15.81, which was just over a second off Bocovich's previous school record. The junior's time is second in the MIAC to Bocovich and ranks 20th nationally, while also moving Kelly up from fourth to third on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event.
Bocovich and Kelly's performances in the 5,000-meter run were among five top-two and 11 top-five finishes for St. Olaf in the unscored meet. Senior
Lucas Kramarczuk and sophomore
Sean Hartney added event victories in the 110-meter hurdles (14.85) and 1,500-meter run (3:57.21), respectively, with Hartney's time ranking third in the MIAC this season.
First year
Sebastian Loder recorded a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 49.42 seconds and ran on St. Olaf's third-place 4x400-meter relay with first year
Alex Bittner, sophomore
Devin McNearny, and junior
Henry Fisher. The quartet's time of 3:21.57 is the third-fastest in the conference to date this season.
Kramarczuk and sophomore
Josh Charlton finished third and fourth in the long jump with jumps of 6.68 meters (21' 11") and 6.31 meters (20' 8 ½"), respectively. Sophomore
Dylan Arnold added a fourth-place performance in the pole vault (4.17m, 13' 8 ¼"), while senior
Andrew Mollison was fifth in the shot put (14.38m, 47' 2 ¼") with the second-best throw among NCAA Division III throwers.
St. Olaf has two competitors -
Demetri Lord and
Andrew Cogley - in action at the MIAC Heptathlon on Thursday and Friday, May 4-5 at Carleton College before hosting the Ole Open on Saturday, May 6 in its final meet before the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 12-13.
