ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's track and field teams had 10 top-five finishes apiece at the unscored University of St. Thomas Easter Invite on Thursday at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
Juniors
Cullen Moore and
Grace Moeller accounted for St. Olaf's two first-place finishes on the day, with Moore winning the 800-meter run and Moeller the 3,000-meter steeplechase. No team scores were kept at the meet, which included a handful of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) programs and three NCAA Division I programs.
In the men's 800-meter run, St. Olaf had eight of the top-10 finishers and 11 of the top 13, led by Moore's first-place time of 1:56.07. First year
Jackson Bullock (1:56.62) and sophomore
Christian Fells (1:56.97) were less than one second behind Moore in second and third, respectively, while junior
Zach Martin (1:57.62) and first year
Austin McInturff (1:58.05) were both within two seconds of Moore as the fourth- and fifth-place finishers.
Moeller won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:42.50 as one of four Oles out of five entrants in the event. Senior
Sofia Carlson won the runner-up to Moeller in 11:47.45, with first year
Willemijn Leiner in third (12:17.69).
St. Olaf had two of the top-three performers in the men's pole vault on the day. Sophomore
Trey Petersen was the runner-up in the event after clearing 3.90 meters (12' 9 ½"), while classmate
Gavin Hoelzel cleared 3.75 meters (12' 3 ½") to place third. Senior
Julian Cumps added a third-place performance in the javelin throw with a mark of 41.62 meters (136' 6").
First year
Logan Paulsen posted two second-place results for the St. Olaf women in the throws, doing so in the shot put (11.20m, 36' 9") and the discus throw (39.60m, 129' 11"). Paulsen's mark in the discus throw moved the first year up two spots to No. 8 on St. Olaf's all-time list in the event. Junior
Aries Mendez was third in the javelin throw (31.88m, 104' 7").
First year
Izzi Jaeckle broke onto St. Olaf's all-time list in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.02 seconds to tie Kris Knickrehm for 10th in program history in the event.
Both teams will send competitors to the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse on Friday, April 18 before heading to the Carleton Relays on Saturday, April 19.
